Reflexões sobre o problema do mal no livro I do De libero arbitrio de Santo Agostinho

Resumen

Analisa-se, neste texto, a concepção do mal no primeiro livro do De Libero Arbitrio, de Santo Agostinho, apontando o rompimento agostiniano com o entendimento maniqueísta que permeou suas reflexões iniciais sobre esta problemática. Distingue-se pecado e desejo como modeladores da causalidade primeira do mal. As questões que envolvem o problema do mal, levando-se em conta a bondade e a justiça de Deus, são apresentadas e abrem-se às explanações agostinianas sobre as leis eterna e temporal. Por fim, desenvolve-se, suscintamente, como a liberdade está imbricada no conceito agostiniano de vontade e o respectivo exercício do livre-arbítrio. /// In this text, the concept of evil in the first book of St. Augustine’s De Libero Arbitrio is analyzed, pointing out the Augustinian break with the Manichean notions that pervaded his initial reflections on this issue. Sin and desire are distinguished as modelers of the first causality of evil. Questions regarding the problem of evil, taking the goodness and justice of God into account, are presented, leading to Augustinian explanations regarding eternal and temporal laws. Finally, the notion of how liberty is intertwined in the Augustinian concept of will, and the respective exercise of free will, is succinctly developed.
