Esperanza y progreso: Reflexiones sobre la encíclica Spe Salvi

Resumo

Con base en las enseñanzas de la Encíclica “Spe Salvi” de Benedicto XVI, este artículo discurre sobre el lugar de la esperanza cristiana en la modernidad. Trata bajo el prisma filosófico de la diferencia esencial de una esperanza fundada en la creencia en Dios y otra apoyada en el progreso científico y técnico. La primera atiende los anhelos del ser humano en su totalidad ontológica, al paso que la segunda lo mueve a realizar las metas parciales de la vida concreta, de cuyo tipo es ejemplo característico el consumismo. Muchas veces estas últimas no pasan de simples ilusiones, tras las cuales se esconde la insatisfacción. El dolor y la muerte, sirven al hombre para plantearse con espíritu metafísico el verdadero sentido de una esperanza total, en la cual pueda fundarse la sed, común a todos los hombres, de una realización plena en todos los sentidos. La existencia de Dios y la esperanza de Cristo son la llave de la respuesta a esta cuestión fundamental de la existencia humana. /// Based on the teachings of the encyclical “Spe Salve” of Benedict XVI, this article discusses the role of Christian hope in the modern context. Beneath a philosophical prism, it deals with the essential difference between hope that is founded on belief in God and hope resting on scientific and technological progress. The former attends to the yearnings of the human being, in his ontological totality, while the latter moves him to achieve the partial goals of concrete life, a characteristic example of which type is consumerism. Often, these latter are nothing more than mere illusions behind which dissatisfaction lies hidden. Pain and death help man to establish himself, with metaphysical spirit, upon the true meaning of an entire hope, on which can be founded the thirst common to all men, for a full realization, in every sense. The existence of God and the hope of Christ are the key to the answer to this fundamental dilema of human existence.
