O “affaire” do Papa Libério testemunhado por Padres da Igreja

Resumo
A tendência em acreditar que as verdades de fé surgem de maneira repentina é um erro muito constante em nossos dias. Esta propensão parece ter se acentuado a partir de uma concepção errônea do dogma da Infalibilidade Pontifícia, pela qual muitos creem que os Papas são fábricas de verdades infalíveis que independem da matéria, do modo e das circunstâncias em que são afirmadas. O presente trabalho tem por objetivo provar quão infundado é este erro, mediante o testemunho de Padres da Igreja sobre a capitulação do Papa Libério ao subscrever a heresia ariana e uma breve consideração dos elementos determinados pela Igreja na constituição dogmática Pastor aeternus para que uma verdade seja considerada infalível.
Abstract
The tendency to believe that truths of the faith appear suddenly is a very common error in our days. This propensity seems to have been accentuated by a misconception of the dogma of Pontifical Infallibility, which leads many to believe that Popes are factories of infallible truths that are independent of the matter, the manner and the circumstances in which they are affirmed. This study seeks to prove how unfounded this error is, by means of the testimony of Fathers of the Church regarding Pope Liberius’ capitulation in subscribing to the Arian heresy, and a brief consideration of the elements determined by the Church for a truth to be considered infallible, in the dogmatic constitution Pastor aeternus.
