Actualizaciones para un dialogo realista sobre la Eutanasia

Para alcanzar el objetivo de este artículo, se hace un estudio sobre la realidad social de la eutanasia en Holanda y Bélgica, países paradigmáticos que inspiraron e ins- piran hasta el día de hoy el debate sobre el asunto en otros países, delimitando así el campo de estudio. La práctica de la eutanasia en estos países está fundamentada en la evolución de criterios para su aplicación, tales como el deseo voluntario del paciente y la enfermedad terminal. Se encuentra también una ausencia de conceptos clave, que permite modificar la aplicación inicial de la eutanasia en función de un padecimiento insufrible y a pedido del paciente, para pasar a una aplicación que va cada vez más hacia el camino de lo irrestricto.

A título de información subsidiaria, también se hará mención de los cuestionamientos que trajo consigo la pandemia del COVID-19, además de una precisión de conceptos que permita ayudar a no confundir eutanasia con ortotanasia, para así con- tribuir a un diálogo fructífero desde una consideración antropológico, ética y cris- tiana de la eutanasia.

Abstract

To achieve the goal of this article, the social reality of euthanasia is examined within the Netherlands and Belgium, paradigmatic countries which have and continue to create a worldwide debate regarding the topic, thus delimiting the field of study. The practice of euthanasia in these countries is based on the evolution of criteria for its application, such as the voluntary desire of the patient and terminal illness. An absence of key concepts is also found, permitting a modification of the initial application of euthanasia, due to an unbearable condition and the request of the patient, toward an application that is increasingly moving towards the unrestricted. As subsidiary information, questions that arose during the COVID-19 pandemic will be dealt with, along with a clarification of concepts to avoid confusion between euthanasia and orthothanasia, thus contributing to a fruitful dialogue regarding euthanasia from an anthropological, ethical and Christian perspective.
